The Civil War obviously didn't happen suddenly. Many events, like the addition of new states and the line of Mason-Dixon line from the Missouri compromise of 1820. This caused some unbalance as several states that were newly added during the time were mostly one type. People from the opposite states would feel that it is unfair and protest.
